Small Footprint helps Skippy Waste Services
Teesside-based waste disposal company, Skippy Waste Services, has taken delivery of its first Isuzu vehicle, a 3.5-tonne N35.125(T) Grafter, supplied by local dealer Thompsons Commercials.
With a ‘mini skiploader’ bodywork designed by Webb Truck Equipment, the new Grafter will play a key role in the company’s daily operations, handling the collection and delivery of the company’s smallest skips, to relieve pressure on the wider fleet of eight commercial vehicles.
Jay Mason, Director of Skippy Waste Services, says: “The Grafter has quickly become a favourite – it’s so easy to drive, even when fully loaded, and the turning circle makes a big difference in tight spaces. I spoke to several other operators before we made the purchase, and I now understand exactly why they spoke so highly of it!”
Commenting on the advice provided by the supplying Isuzu Truck dealer, he adds: “Dave Forster at Thompsons was fantastic. He gave us a great introduction to both the Isuzu brand and the capability of the vehicle, whilst also ensuring the specification fitted our needs exactly. The Grafter’s lightweight chassis means it can accommodate larger skips than many comparable 3.5-tonne models, which gives us greater flexibility.”
Skippy Waste Services specified the body to closely mirror equipment on its 7.5-tonne vehicles, maximising driver familiarity and ensuring consistency across the fleet. The N35.125(T) chassis was also built with twin rear wheels for added stability and traction. Combined with the Grafter’s compact footprint, this makes it well-suited for accessing sites with restricted access.
To maximise uptime, the customer has opted for a five-year Extended Warranty and Free Servicing Package with Isuzu, to match plans to keep the truck on its fleet until at least 2031. This provides additional peace of mind beyond the manufacturer’s standard three-year unlimited mileage warranty, with the truck expected to clock up around 200km each day.
Founded in 1999, Skippy Waste Services offers specialised waste transfer and recycling services, with more than 600 skips ranging in size from two yards, for small DIY projects, to 40-yard roll-on roll-off units for industrial applications.
