It is less than three years since First Mile Ltd acquired its first ever Isuzu and the London based recycling company now has over 20 Isuzus in its fleet, all based on the Isuzu Forward 7.5 tonne rigid chassis cab.
The latest six Isuzu 7.5 tonners to enter service within the 62-strong delivery and collection fleet at First Mile are all Isuzu Forward N75.150 (E) rigids, fitted with Solent Bodies caged tipper bodies. For the first time, the tipper bodies also feature side bin lifts for on-street collections.
Supplied by local Isuzu Truck dealer Cordwallis Commercials at Heathrow, the new Isuzu 7.5 tonne rigids will be in the First Mile fleet for at least five years, providing regular recycling collection services to customers in London and Birmingham.
Lucasz Czech, Head of Operations at First Mile said, “Our first involvement with Isuzu was back in 2015. The Isuzu truck chassis was ideal for our operations and they have proven to be reliable in service and economical to run. They now account for a third of our fleet and we are delighted with their performance and the service from our Isuzu dealer, Cordwallis, who have supported our growth.”
Lucasz continues, “First Mile is an environmental business and our impact on London’s Air Quality is most important. The Isuzus complement our low emission fleet of modern and zero emission vehicles because they comply to the highest (Euro VI) emission standards and are ULEZ compliant, ahead of the April 2019 deadline. The Isuzu N75.150 trucks provide us with a very high payload for this class of vehicle, which means that we have fewer trucks on the road and burn less fuel for each tonne collected. The addition of the side lifts has enabled us to be the only company providing London-wide daily food recycling collections. Food waste is converted to green energy, which also contributes to improving Air Quality in the UK.”
Established in 2004, First Mile is London’s leading recycling brand, providing 24/7 recycling services to over 20,000 businesses in London and Birmingham. The company’s mission is to make it easy for businesses to recycle and they achieved a 63% recycling rate in 2017.
“With environmental awareness high on the agenda at every company these days, the recycling services provided by First Mile need to be reliable and efficient to ensure that companies prioritise recycling as part of everyday business life. The reliable performance and efficiency of the Isuzu 7.5 tonners in the First Mile fleet is certainly helping them widen the awareness of recycling as well as leading to significant business growth in this important element of working life” said Richard Waterworth, Head of Sales at Isuzu Truck UK.
