Two years after they acquired their first-ever Isuzus, Derbyshire-based Holdsworth Foods has now increased the Isuzu representation in its 120-strong, all-refrigerated commercial vehicle fleet with the recent addition of 14 new Isuzu Forward 7.5 tonne rigids, with a further five Isuzu 7.5 tonners on order for delivery in September.
According to Ian Mycock, general manager at Holdsworth Foods, “Our first four 7.5 tonne Isuzus were originally purchased in 2015 as we wanted to assess them for payload and reliability. Over the subsequent two years, these Isuzus have proved to be really good value and economical to operate, as well as being favoured by our drivers for their overall performance. As a result, when we needed to implement the latest fleet replacement programme at 7.5 tonnes, Isuzu fitted the bill perfectly.”
ITUK’s Fleet Sales Manager Jon Corcoran played an important role in helping Holdsworth Foods put together a package that suited their requirements.
The 14 Isuzu 7.5 tonne Forward rigids have all been specified with the popular Easyshift automatic gearbox and each vehicle features a Solomon multi-compartment refrigerated body with the deep-frozen section at the rear of the body and chilled compartment at the front. Refrigeration is provided by Carrier Xarios MT systems.
Although payload and driver acceptability were the significant factors in the decision by Holdsworth Foods to specify the Isuzu marque for this fleet replacement programme, the company also recognised that Isuzu operates a proven and reliable national backup service, which is extremely important to Holdsworth Foods as these distribution vehicles are literally based all over the UK.
“The national Isuzu CARE programme is well-established and extremely professional in operation. Having had two years’ experience of the Isuzu support, I can honestly say that their approach to supporting customers is absolutely first-class” commented Ian Mycock.
All 14 of the Isuzu 7.5 tonners are now in service with Holdsworth Foods, operating at various depots around the UK delivering frozen and chilled and ambient goods. The vehicles are each expected to operate in the fleet for five years and have been supplied through Isuzu truck dealer HRVS in Sheffield. Supported by a five-year repair and maintenance contract through Isuzu, Holdsworth Foods anticipate that each Isuzu will cover in excess of 50,000 km per annum over its working life.
“The strength of the Isuzu 7.5 tonne rigid in the foodservice distribution industry is well known and Holdsworth Foods have had first-hand experience of the payload and reliability benefits associated with the Isuzu brand for the past two years. This has now led to a much greater representation of Isuzu in their fleet, with further orders for 19 new vehicles this year alone” said Pete Murphy, managing director, Isuzu Truck UK.
